The Quicksilver Group adds a Seawalker helmet dive on Green Island to the Great Adventures day trip, so you walk the reef floor without swimming. It rates 4.1 across 98 reviews. Free cancellation applies.
Overview
A helmet sits on your shoulders, water stays out, and you walk across the reef floor on a platform with fish moving around you. That is the Seawalker premise, and it is the reason this tour works for people who never learned to swim. One couple who cannot swim wrote that the helmet walk let them see the coral without any worry.
The day runs about 7 hours in total. You check in at the Reef Fleet Terminal on Spence Street in Cairns and sail to Green Island on a Great Adventures fast catamaran, with morning tea or coffee served onboard before departure. Once on the island you do the Seawalker helmet dive, choose between a glass bottom boat tour or snorkelling gear, and use the island day visitor facilities, including a swimming pool reserved for Great Adventures passengers. A self guided island walk fills any spare time before the return cruise to Cairns.
Group size is capped at 10 travellers. The minimum age for Seawalker is 12, and everyone completes a medical questionnaire on the day. Hotel transfers are not part of this product, so you make your own way to the terminal.

What To Expect From The Tour
A few practical points shape the day, several of them medical, so read these before booking.
- Medical screening. Every participant completes a medical questionnaire, and the minimum age is 12. Travellers have been turned away on the day over prescription medication or a sinus infection, so contact the supplier in advance about any condition or medication.
- Getting there. Hotel pick up and drop off are not included, so plan your own transport to the Reef Fleet Terminal. Arrive 45 minutes before departure to check in and collect a boarding pass at the Great Adventures Counter.
- Photos. You cannot take your own camera underwater, a safety rule stated in the listing. A professional photographer shoots the dive instead and sells the images afterwards.
- Fitness and pace. The listing asks for a moderate level of physical fitness and does not recommend the tour for travellers with back problems. One reviewer found the timing comfortable, with enough free time to walk around the island.
- Visibility. Water clarity varies.
- After the dive. After a single helmet dive, a wait of 12 hours is recommended before ascending to 300 metres or more. Keep that in mind if you plan to fly or drive to altitude the same day.
Common issues. Weather cancellations are the biggest complaint, and several reviewers said they learned only at check in or after reaching the island that the dive was off. Medical exclusions discovered on the day ruined trips for some groups, so raise any conditions with the operator beforehand. One reviewer found the walk area small and the time short. The tour is not wheelchair accessible and hotel transfers are not included.
Choosing A Tour
Is hotel pickup included?
No. Hotel pick up and drop off are not included with this product. You make your own way to the Reef Fleet Terminal at 1 Spence Street, Cairns, and check in at the Great Adventures Counter 45 minutes before departure.
What is included in the price?
The Seawalker helmet dive, return fast catamaran cruise, a choice of glass bottom boat tour or snorkelling equipment, morning tea or coffee onboard until departure, a self guided island walk, island day visitor facilities and use of the island swimming pool exclusive to Great Adventures. Professional underwater photos and video are sold separately.
Can I do this if I cannot swim?
Yes. Reviewers who cannot swim described the helmet walk as a safe way to see the reef, since your head stays dry inside the helmet and you walk on a platform rather than swimming.
What is the minimum age and are there health restrictions?
The minimum age for Seawalker is 12. Everyone completes a medical questionnaire, certain conditions and medications can rule you out, and the tour is not recommended for travellers with back problems or wheelchair users. Contact the supplier before booking if you have any medical concerns.
What is the cancellation policy?
Cancel at least 24 hours before the experience start time for a full refund. Cancel or request changes inside that window and the amount paid is not refunded. Cut off times follow the experience local time.
Can I bring a camera underwater?
No, safety procedures prohibit personal cameras underwater. A professional photographer takes photos during the dive, which you can purchase afterwards.
